This sample combines simple free embroidery with mark making and appliqué. After looking at Anne Brooke I wanted to create a rustic and handmade feeling sample to express the nature that I had sketched around Llandaff cathedral. Creating a mixed media piece allowed me to incorporate the mark mark making skills I have developed over the last couple of weeks. I used the stencils I already had on brown paper and the main fabric to create a textured and painty background. I mirrored Anne Brookes style of appliquéing in shapes and then stitching over them to make the portray the object. I used some different materials to layer up to create a background for the poppy leaves. Overall I am really happy with this sample as it combined a number of things I have learnt and also will add another dimension to my samples this term.
