Merry-Go-Round is an Australian Design company lead by husband and wife David and Rebecca. Their main aim is make it easier to be green. They identified the issue of how disposable the greeting card market is. I found this particularly inspiring because being part of the textiles industry makes sustainability and the environment at the forefront of my mind.
I don’t particularly relate to their illustrative style and I don’t think it will inspire my project I really like the concept of the “Merry-Go-Round” card. In basic terms its about passing on a card rather than throwing it away. Currently it is more acceptable to pass on a bag but not a card, maybe if the cards were slightly more modern (then the companies collection) it will attract more people. The company have deiced to make gender neutral and blank cards so they can be easily passed on however I still feel that you could make them slightly more specific and they will still be able to be passed on.
The cards have four simple slits in side the card to allow the giver to cut out a new piece of paper for their message. Its a very simple idea but effective and easy for people to do. Also on the back of the card there is an illustration to show how many times it has been passes along. This could encourage people to continue to pass it on.
