Design Development: Bringing in Colour

In last weeks tutorial, it was highlighted that my sketches and prints so far are on white backgrounds and/or in black  (which isn’t part of my colour palette. I have realised that I like to sketch out patterns in fine liner but I need to remember to quickly start realising them in colour. I am currently still working in the dye lab to develop my colours but for the time being I have scanned in my imagery into Illustrator.

I have experimented with scale, background colour and layering. I have now started to develop the ‘modern’ toile de jouy inspired by Harriet Popham, Alison Eighteen and Timorous Beasties. I want to develop these designs further and play around with this style. I feel that its a good opportunity for me to bring in my illustrative style.
